The Recent research achievements

We establish a nested atmospheric inversion system with a focus on China using the Bayesian method, which is the first atmospheric carbon inversion system developed in China. Using this system, we studied the carbon sources and sinks in China for the period from 2002 to 2008. The results show that the mean China terrestrial carbon sinks over the period 2002–2008 is −0.28 ± 0.18 PgC yr−1; and there is an increasing trend, with relatively stronger land sink in 2002, lowest sink in 2005, and strongest sink in 2007. The inter-annual variation (IAV) of the carbon uptake could be reasonably explained with the IAVs of temperature and precipitation in China. This work has been published in Biogeosciences.
